Amelioration

 Amelioration in my practice

Ameliorate - To make something better, more tolerable or less painful.

“Ungrateful little bitch, no sense of reality.” And in response, I didn’t cry, or argue, I just looked at her. I thought about how I could soothe the feeling, what can I make? What can I do? I don’t know yet but it will be great.

This reasoning has been an inspiration for many creative works. This reactive inspiration often filters through other works outside of studies, sketchbook drawings, poetry and digital stuff, I sometimes find it easier to approach more raw personal stuff in these outlets as it feels safer to me. I know I can be open in these outlets, they are only viewed if I want them to be. I have used some unpleasant personal inspirations in previous projects but for the final pieces I often detach myself slightly from the inspiration, the pink “alternate universe” paintings were inspired by my hurtful childhood, being forced to grow to quickly. The symbols were inspired by memories from my past but I don’t think this can be seen outwardly, I didn’t want it to be, I wanted it to be a generalised feeling of childhood doom, something many people could hopefully attach themselves to, they began about me but they were for everyone who needed them.

I like that I can turn hurtful things into art
