Format festival

Today I went to format festival, A photography event based across multiple venues in Derby. I had mainly gone to visit the photobook market as this speaks directly to my own project work, i saw many interesting books. Brought one that was just a collection of images of carparks and their google reviews, comical in a dry manner. I was hoping to gain inspiration for the upcoming zine fair I'm taking part in and by chance came across a whole zine van, this was super interesting. I took some time to look around the van, this intrigued me, the white van and the lo-fi quality of zines really worked well together, like they shared the same language. The different exhibitions all had different themes and subjects, some i preferred to others but what mainly caught my attention was all the different ways of displaying images and photographs, of course you had your traditional images in frames, but i particularly like the more alternate ways of displaying, I saw a curtain printed with an image, i thought this a good way to adapt to a broken space. One of my favourite methods i saw were images printed into wall decals like large form stickers, when the work is completely 2d and flat to the wall it gives a completely different effect, quite clean and clinical. Overall I enjoyed the event and found it to be great for gathering inspiration.
