I have decided to join some of the 2nd years in the creation of an arts collective. The name of the collective being “potluck” reflects the ideals we hope to have for it, the idea that we all put in what we can and take what we need. From the few meetings we’ve had, it sounds like it could become a really positive and nurturing environment for artists. We’ve spoken about reaching out to a few of the previous students like Sam and Becky to see if they would be interested in joining us on it. 

Within this small group we already have a few aims and projects we’re working towards, for light night we’re working towards running an origami workshop on the night, people can make boats and this will turn into a little letting go ceremony on the canal. Also we’re hoping to create a zine, I said I’d be happy to take the role of editing and finalising layout for the zine as I thought I could enjoy that role. I’ve made zines in the past for my own projects. 

I mean so far the collective has just consisted of lots of meetings and planning but I’m excited for what it could become in time. The second years who are taking part are all super driven and lovely, I think it offers the possibility for a super uplifting and kind environment. This could also ease anxieties around the gap in creativity once the course has finished.
