Studio practice
Wood cuttings
The other week we took a trip over to the wood room to create a collective hanging wood piece. We were given slices of MDF board and drew various natural shapes on them. We used band saws to cut out our shapes and then drilled into the shapes using the wholes in lace as inspiration. All the separate pieces were connected by ribbon’s, when hung the wholes in the piece created beautiful shadows and looked really effective. I was quite apprehensive to use the large machines but after being talked through how to properly use them and the health and safety of them, it was actually a lot easier and safer than I had first thought.
