Studio practice
I have done a further study on my one of my sagger experiment pieces to create a painting looking in more details at the textures and Colours created. I’ve created a 3d textured mixed media painting, I began this piece with an orange under paintings to eliminate any unnatural white. I built up the textures layer by layer using glue and tissue paper sporadically. I added small amounts of filler to places I thought prominent. I built up the rich colours with layers of warm earthy oranges and browns working with very lose brush strokes. I created the burnt away details of the pots on this canvas with blue toned Greys and whites in particularly textured parts. I went in at the end with white, red and brown pencil crayons on the textured parts to really bring forward all the fine details. I really enjoyed creating this piece using lose and expressive motions throwing on the tissue paper, really trying to Chanel the unpredictability of nature and this firing technique. I really like this piece because of the abstract ness of it people really take what they want from it, with each person I’ve spoke to seeing different things within it but all along the theme of nature so I believe it to be a successful painting in that sense. However I do think I could have brought some more light tones into the painting as the dark feels very heavy.
