Ritual hanger

For our new project ‘structure’ we had a morning to choose wether to finish of bits on our previous project or have a play around with long thin pieces of wood and wire, I chose to do the latter. With my first starting point being structure I created a series of small triangles by wire wrapping small pieces of the wood together, I had a thought about how I wanted to use structure as the main inspiration for this piece without just going for structure as the literal physical structure. So I decided to have a think about lifestyle structure and created a wooden wire wrapped hanger with a huge ritualistic inspiration, choosing the triangles as the 3 points and number 3 has huge importance to people in ritualistic backgrounds. I added feathers, for decorative reasons and then the next day decided to add some bones for extra effect and emotive response. I wouldn’t really class this piece as part of our new project but really just more of a starting activity to get ideas flowing but I did really enjoy creating this piece very much as it had more of a craft feel to it compared to our normal tasks.  However if I were to create a piece like this again I would work at making it more three dimensional rather than flat to the wall.
