Ceramic practice

Since beginning my studies on this course I have discovered a new found  love for ceramics. Throughout my art life I have always loved to branch out and try new things but my main practice and focus has always been on painting, so despite really enjoying this new ceramic journey I didn’t really have any technique or knowledge to work from. To further extend my pieces within my projects I have been working in the ceramic room around my time tabled lessons to practice this new medium and extend my knowledge. I have working  during some lunch times, Wednesday afternoons and some Fridays practicing the basic’s like slab building, coiling and decorative techniques.

A slab built vase, exploring textures with glaze made during a few lunches- delta stoneware :

A bottle practicing slab building stability made during a lunch- delta stoneware :

A slab built dish made on a Wednesday afternoon - white earthenware with grog:

A coiled mug made on a Friday- white earthenware with grog:

- Im particularly enjoying seeing my progression through creating mugs and seeing how they get slightly better each time.
I’m now going to look to understand the shrinking sizes of each better during each firing stage. I’d also like to explore pulling handles and continuing to work on perfecting my techniques so my actual course work can be of a better quality.
