Jeannie Polisuk
Jeannie Polisuk is a visual multi-media artist that works in installations, collage, sculpture and painting. Polisuks work is highly successful with work being held in many private and corporate collections. In 2020 Polisuk’s work moved on to a more abstract form of painting, I will be looking at her pre 2020 work. This work combines childish imagery with dark disturbing adult themes in a way that creates an eerie nostalgic feeling to her paintings. One thing I particularly like about this artist work is the reoccurring fluffy rabbit motif, I feel like this almost creates a story line to the paintings and growth to the rabbit character. I really like these paintings and believe there are strong overlapping themes between her work and my project at the moment, with the innocent imagery paired with harsh reality. However one this that is particularly different in our approaches to this theme is our chosen colour schemes, I have personally been working with pastel colours, mainly pinks, blue and yellow paired with bright neons, Polisuk uses very subdued dark colours, almost muddy in appearance , this is a very effective choice for creating dark dramatisation and something I’ll definitely revisit in future projects.
