Professional practice
Raphael Daden
Raphael Daden is a Nottingham based sculpture artist. He completed a Ba in Fine art at Loughborough college and even then was focused on large sculpture work but with the mediums of wood and stone instead. In Dadens more current pieces he mainly works with Resin, light and colour. He mentioned much of his work is inspired by the 90s, rave culture, natural forms and the aim of social commentary through his art. Daden is a successful sculpture artist with many works displayed in different places, from hospitals to fancy hotels in london. Much of his large work is commission based and public sculpture so he talked about the site specifity and admin aspects of it. Another thing i found to be inciteful was that because of his public sculptures being large scale and having different elements like electrics he often has to work in teams and outsource for certain parts of the making. He talked about some of the benefits of this like extra help but also difficulties like multiple responsibilities but although it makes perfect sense i had never realised it possible, i knew that you could use found items and all that but always thought if you were making something you have to do every step entirely yourself, but thats not the case, so new information learned. I enjoyed Raphaels talk, i believe he was a good artist to of been brought in to speak to us as his practice and process vastly differs from the other artists due to his work being large, public and sculptural so when he was talking about how he makes his art world work for him much of it was new information for us.
