Shadow Painting 4
For the fourth and final painting I decided to revisit the first shadow from my bedroom windowsill, things had obviously changed in the windowsill over the time but the shadow maintained similar aspects. For this painting I struggled choosing the colour theme, I wanted to revisit the pink but didn’t feel it sat quite right alone next to the green, and felt the blue wasn’t vibrant enough. In the end I went with the last experiment board I did which was purple yet I didn’t feel convinced In my choice but I also think this could of just been because I wanted the pink but knew it wouldn’t be the visually right choice. Once again I continued with the same method and technique I had used for all my paintings as it seemed to work for me. I did struggle for a while to get a vibrancy into the purple colours I was mixing for this piece. I found in the end with the paints and tones I was trying to achieve that I had to make them much lighter as they were drying slightly darker. This challenged me for a short while but I soon got the hang of it once realising. Despite using bright purples the urge for vibrancy didn’t quite feel met so I gave in and added a few small highlights of neon pink in places I felt needed. When adding the final parts to the painting I worked on both at the same time as I found it to be the most effective way to keep my marks fresh and consistent within both the paintings. Once i got the painting to a place i was happy with i left them to dry ready to varnish them both, this time just varnishing the whole painting rather than layering places out of fear of overworking them again, Id decided to varnish them as i liked how it really brought each colour out further.
