Studio practice

 Lego Letter press

Last Thursday the studio wasn't open as most of the group were away on a trip so I did some work from home. I was on Instagram that morning and saw a reel on Lego print pressing, I thought it could perhaps  be an interesting way to print text. I happened to already have a small box of Lego at home so decided to just try it out.  Lego printing is the process of creating a printing plate out of Lego bricks. You use a flat base piece then add on bricks to create your design.  As i was trying to print text i had to remember to invert it when creating the plate, this is a little tricky to get your head around to begin with. When printing the plate i quickly found out that to create prints like id seen online i needed a specific set of Lego bricks. This set contains small flat bricks and some curved corner pieces which would allow for a much smoother graphic print opposed to the blocky, rigid dots i achieved.

This was a very fun little activity but i wont be taking this process further into this project. I don't love my prints and they aren't what i was picturing but i am happy i had some kind of result from this activity, these prints remind me of like old school tech, lace punch cards, old tickets, braille and morse code but not signage like i was hoping. I will revisit this process with the proper equipment but either in my free time or a future project.
