 Tracey Emins textiles

Tracey Emin is a British artist specialising in a range of media, ill be looking at her textile pieces. Her work tends to be classed as autobiographical and confessional work, this gives it huge themes of feminist views throughout. The textile pieces I'm looking at are patch work quilts with angsty text and imagery, the text usually being sort of angry female confessions of the raw inner thought arranged in a college like style. The "blankets", as she describes them, particularly the earlier ones where made of quite personal items like old clothing of her friends and her own that she cuts up to create these college like designs. Id been looking at these pieces of hers due to the mix of traditional female needle work with these "un-ladylike" deep confessions there adorned with. There's a deliberate crudeness to these pieces, raw edges and wonky letters, this adds this homely feel to the craft but also perhaps deliberately adding a sense of instability.  This mix of materials despite done in a different way is something that resonates within my own work.
