 Marina Abramović

 Abramović is a conceptual and performance artist with her work often exploring endurance, body art and the relationships between an artist theirwork and the audience. Also feminist messages and themes are often explored as Abramović is a self proclaimed feminist.

 Art must be beautiful, Artist must be beautiful, 1975 

A performative video where Abramović obsessively and aggressively brushes her hair whilst repeating the words "Art must be beautiful, Artist must be beautiful". This simple action and phrases ends up making a highly dramatic video through her demeanour, starting normally and calm and progressing into more erratic movements like she's in a strange tranced state. Obviously Abramovic is one of the best known female video and performance artists and of course one the first ports of call when looking for strong examples and inspiration. When planning my own video I looked at all her pieces but this piece in particularly interests me and one I looked at more deeply I like the basic simplicity that build up to form the dramatics. When planning my own video I tried to adopt this sense drama built through simplicity, I kept my actions clean and basic, kind of lacking of emotion and let the rest of the wine and sculpture add the sense of drama without overcomplicating it with myself, i kept revisting this idea in my mind of the simple routine.
