Ex fiancé of Christina Rossetti, pre-Raphaelite views split the engagement. Inspired poems by Rosetti- her brother a PRB painter also 

Battle between religious ideas and PRB ideas. Left the PRB but the artistic style persisted through his use of colour and such. 

The PRB movement was a small collective of artists and writers who created work the didn't fit the traditional ideas of Raphael. Work often inspired by the Italian artists of the past.
