The founder film
The founder, 2016
Film about how McDonald's turned from an independent drive through into the fast food franchise it is today. Talks about the changes made to create the quick paced workplace. I was particularity interested in the tennis court scene, how they reconfigured the whole kitchen to work in the best and most efficient way possible. I first watched this film many years ago in a business class, as it goes into detail about topics like, franchising, quality control and supply and demand but now rewatching it I'm more focused on the tennis court scene, the observation of movement. In the film they draw out the exact dimensions of the kitchen on a tennis court with chalk and bring in the staff to go through the motions of cooking, constantly observing the moments and distances and re drawing and moving things to come up with the most efficient kitchen, re-doing this over and over until they felt it to be perfect. Talks about challenges they faced and has a whole backstory to it, the film further explores how the franchising later came on but none of that is applicable to my own work, just the scene on the tennis court. I don't believe I really gain any insight for my own work from this film but from a visual perspective I believe the tennis court scene and the time lapse video I'm working on to be on a similar route, its the same visual observation of movement but just for different reasons.
