Video idea and process
Despite working mainly with images for this project I knew I wanted to incorporate video into the work in some way as this is something I want to try explore and experiment with more. The daily documentation images of my table gave me the idea for this video, seeing how all the images changed slightly from day to day I thought when filmed together it could make a nice documentation of movement through a space, all centred around my own bed side table. To me I believe the bedside table acts as the centre of life in a room, especially in young adult life where a lot of home life is spent within the bedroom, its the central port of call. I attached a table top tripod to the wall with tape, surprisingly it stayed up well the whole time and even though its not part of the film I really enjoyed the way the tripod looked attached to the wall. I decided to film on my Digi cam both because its a small light camera that wouldn't pull the tripod of the wall but also just because I enjoy using these small cameras and the effect they have. I decided to call the film Dawn-Dusk Its a time lapse film showing 12 hours of the day in 12 minutes. I'm pleased with the way the videos turned out, there are a few bits where it cuts and jumps, because I used the small camera and despite fully charging it before hand it kept running out of charge because of the long filming time, but to be honest I really don't mind it, the video has that domestic quality so a few jumps doesn't really effect it. I decided to remove any audio from the clips, making it a silent video. When I put the video up on the big screen, the room was silent expect for the sound of a ticking clock on the wall, we found it really complimented the video and gave it a meditative, trance like quality, I tried to add this audio after but ran into some difficulties. When looking for sounds to download I could only get short clips and the videos 12 minutes long, I tried just duplicating the audio but each time it left about a second of noticeable silence, I couldn't find a way to extend or just loop the audio so I left it silent, but this is something ill look into more and consider next time.
