People watching
Yesterday I decided to gain inspiration id go out to certain busy areas within town to just observe people and their behaviour, basically just people watching. After walking around for a while I chose two places to observe from, a bench on Pelham street and sat at the market square, I chose these areas as they had high foot traffic but also a place I could sit back ad watch from. I noted down anything I found interesting and tried to notice reoccurring themes and patterns. I'm hoping that observing these reoccurring objects or actions will help me identify what parts of human life and our daily transit I want to pick out and explore. At the moment I think I still like the idea of exploring smoking and bags.
Pelham street (shopping area):
- Lots of really full tote bags
-People in headphones
- women taking there babies shopping in prams - This interested me and made me laugh, I understand that they take the babies with them because like you cant leave them alone and if the mothers want to shop the baby has to come too but I found the idea humorous, there were so many babies being taken to places like Zara or Primark but in reality the babies have absolutely no care for retail shopping, I don't know I just found the idea of babies shopping for a new outfit quite funny.
- Older people looking to see what I'm doing
- Smokers in doorways avoiding the rain
- People pushing bicycles
- People talking without looking at each other.
The Market Square:
- A man with a camera taking photos of the buildings, his partner sat waiting holding the dog in the rain. She didn't seem to mind waiting in the rain.
-Pigeons
-More people talking to each other without looking at one another
- Street aid workers trying to help the homeless from the rain
- Lots of reusable bags, tote bags, bags for life.
- Almost every person has a handbag or backpack of some kind
- Quite a few people carrying large bags of things
-Babies in prams
- Lots of people carrying hot drinks of some kind
- People smoking and waking, perhaps even more people vaping.
-People walking to busy to really notice anything.
