Gallery and studio visits

 Primary studios and Bonington gallery

On Wednesday we took a trip to Primary studios, it was mainly for others in the group to show work they'd made for the from the ground up, who are based at Primary. Although I myself am not making any work for from the ground up it was an opportunity to get a talk from the engagement curator about how things are set up there and view the exhibitions currently on. I particularly enjoyed the exhibitions, there were multiple video pieces very different in style, I enjoyed both pieces but think Sonya Dyers "The Ready room" was my favourite it was interesting because it was based on hard science and science fiction but approached in a wacky and humorous way.

On the walk back from Primary we went into the NTU Bonington gallery to look at the space and work on display there. There was a really cool exhibition on by artist Osheen Siva, the works were illustrative in style and again were based around the idea of science fiction, I really liked the bright use of colour too and found them reminiscent of old school American traditional tattoo styles. One thing I was looking at whilst there was the way the work was displayed in the space, a curtain created a partition in the room which held sewing pieces, I thought this an interesting way of dividing up the big room. I also liked how they painted on the walls to match the style of the work, the black walls painted with blue details complimented and aided the work, it felt like they taken over the room rather than just putting up some paintings, other than like proper installation I hadn't seen this as a way of displaying.
