Tristram Aver
Tristram Aver is an Artist and Curator currently based in Nottingham. As an artist Tristram Aver primarily focuses on Painting although many pieces involve mixed media elements like screen printing, collage and light. Like many artists, Tristram also splits his time between his art world and working life as a way of Finacle stability, working as an Exhibition curator for Nottingham city museums and galleries. Nottingham city museums and galleries covers the three sites of Newstead Abbey, Wollaton Hall and Nottingham Castle, having just had the opportunity to exhibit work in the castle it was interesting to hear from one of the people on the team that organisers most of those projects. Aver spoke about how a lot of his art works are influenced by both current situations and the work he does in stately homes and work with art collections, showing how both parts of his world feed into one another. He spoke about the need to stay consistent in your art practice, that relationships and connections you have within the artworld can sometimes be years without contact so its important to keep a consistent body of work for if opportunities do arise. He made it clear that there can be a struggle in keeping yourself making when things take a dip or other parts of your world change but to combat this you should modify your practice to fit around your changing world, to move to closer studios, take on different roles but most importantly just don't stop. I really enjoyed our talk with Tristram Aver, I found it inciteful, we basically got two talks, one from him as a curator and another as him as an artist, both really interesting.
