Studio practice
Making in place practice
Over the course of last week I decided to just keep practicing and building confidence by repeating the leaf sewing in various locations. One of the things I wanted to test was how well the leaves stayed on over the course of the week. To begin with I was apprehensive at the idea of wearing the same clothes for 4 days but actually ended up quite enjoying it, it made getting ready in the mornings very simple and towards the end began to feel like putting on a costume. I quickly got used to sewing the leaves onto myself in public places, focusing on the physical act of sewing actually helped distract myself from the nerves and anxious feelings. One part I hadn't thought about was the fact that I would be going about my regular days covered in leaves, I knew obviously when actually sewing and in college I would have them on but hadn't thought about the other parts of my day like commuting and such, I did get a few funny looks of people whilst walking but it was fine, I mean I understand it does look kind of weird seeing leaves stuck to someone without any reasoning why. I went to various places to practice throughout the week like St Marys church, the arboretum, the train, Waterstones and a few other places. I chose to make this another week of practice as I was waiting for another piece of equipment for the film camera and didn't want to start without it as I want the documentation to be consistent but hope to start it properly next week now I have all the stuff.
I took a few videos to document this weeks practice, I've edited them down so they uploaded easily.
