Leaf casting
On Thursday I went back to the ceramic room to try out the porcelain leaf casting again but this time seeing the process through properly. I followed the same process as before, spraying the leaves with hairspray then dipping them in the slip but this time I went back an hour later to give them a second layer of slip so hopefully it will be less fragile when fired. The faces in the leaves are already reminiscent of worried or slightly scream like faces but with the second layer of slip applied it started to drip down the eyeholes and make the leaves look like they were crying. I found the crying leaves to be really interesting, the choice to do this project around journeys and travelling was partly influenced by own anxieties and worries I experience travelling, there's been many times I've cried at the train station so found it kind of funny how the leaves unintentionally gained that aspect.
