Artist Research

 Rebecca Horn   

Rebecca Horn is a German visual artist working in installation and performative art. For this project I'm interested in her film stills. Rebecca Horn uses her body as an extension of her artwork making her physical self as prominent to the artwork as a camera to a photographer. There are several links between my work and the work of Horn, the first being the use of our bodies to aid a performative act but the main being the literal inspiration I took from her film stills and portraits. Before I began the leaf sewing and documentation of it I'd looked at a few different artists to see how I'd want it to look documented and ultimately fell completely on Rebeca horn. I took major inspiration from the composition and static stances apparent in most of her images, I liked this because its clean and balanced but it also has a  simplicity to it, the body being an aid to the task so it doesn’t have to be dramatic when capturing it, I liked this and ultimately adopted a very similar style when documenting my own work on film.
