Glazing
I realised I never went back down to glaze the ceramic piece I made during the plaster workshop a few weeks back. I knew glazing wouldn't take long so I just nipped in late just before leaving on Thursday as I wanted to get it done and thought it might be a quite time. I decided on plain glossy white, thought this colour could hopefully mirror the colour of bathroom tiles quite well.
Deeper thought on the train
Later I sat on the train deliberating a caption to post with it on social media, "bathroom shrine", "to the bathroom god" "sanctuary", I finally chose "bathroom deity". I don't really know why my thoughts around it suddenly became so very biblical. The shape does have connotations of gravestones but also shrines and places of offering. This is a shape I've used before when working in clay, again making shrines that questioned worth. I don't have a strict religion myself but they interest me deeply. When I think about the bathroom and particularly bathing, I do associate it with questioning, worship, revelation, all things that are often intertwined or associated with religions, maybe this is why. I don't really know if this affects or means anything for my project as a whole but just made me ponder my subject and reasoning for a while.
