Shit stories photos no. 1  

Below are photos from my first session filming shit stories. For my first go I decided to film Yang. Despite practicing the filming process in my own bathroom, I knew it may still take some extra time to set up due it being the first one filmed properly so it made sense to use someone that was super familiar with the project. The filming process went well, and I'm now confident to go film others. When filming I ask the person to sit in a way that is comfortable to them but only shows the camera a tiny part of the speaker. I chose this for a few reasons, I found people have been more at ease with the idea when they know they are slightly hidden, but also I think it creates this interesting disconnect or contrast between the nature of the story and the speaker. Yang chose to hide slightly behind the curtain, her feet to be seen resting on the baths edge. I was going to take a portrait of the person after, but i realised with my previous thoughts and reasoning it made no sense to do that, I decided instead I would take a photo of the part they wanted to be seen. I think I may use these images for the publication, pair the text of their story next to their image. 

I like how the images of yang turned out, I think the colours of the tile and curtain contrast each other nicely. The socks and loofa being a matching magenta was accidental but I think it adds an interesting pop.
