Publication/zine making
The collective group want to create a zine, I had been meaning to make a publication for the “handle with care” video for a while. We were going to meet another student with a current zine so this inspired me to get my stuff together and just make it. Despite the group wanting to make a zine, I believe publications are more my personal style, I prefer the editorial approach opposed to diy. I do see the beauty and appeal of diy but i feel it just doesn’t fit with my work or process. I went for a A5 leaflet style, I think the end result turned out beautifully, just as I imagined, however the stress making it was unholy. I created it digitally and did have some issues with formatting it but it was pretty easy to overcome, printing was the main issue. I found it easy to print at home, I just put the paper through the printer twice to print on all pages, I just didn’t have the ink to finish it properly, the college printers drove me insane. I was sure there must be a way to do it digitally but just couldn’t work it out, Paul in the shop helped me but in future I’ll just print at home.

Although this isn’t work for the shit stories project, I’ve wrote about it here as I believe it has given me some good insights for when thinking about creating that projects publication. I could print that publication at home but I think If I want the best quality I should design it online and send of to have it printed professionally. This will save me a lot of stress and ultimately give the best result.
