 Shit stories publication

When I began this project I knew part of my end goal would be to have a publication showcasing a collection of shit stories. I had previously tried folded zines, leaflet zines, designed books and hand bound books. I originally thought I might choose a hardback designed book for this project but when it came to editing I found that a magazine fit the work better. The magazine itself was simple to design, like previous work I stuck to a clean editorial style, repeating colours and lots of clean blank space. For the cover and accent colours I chose a deep red colour, a personal choice, I have spoken more about this colour choice in the contemporary issues journal post titled “colour and Association”, this can be found in the side bar of my blogs home page. The magazine contains a page explaining the project, a page showing the call out, then a collection of 15 story’s, all numbered. I have come to love this way of presenting what I receive from call outs, keeping everything relatively unaltered, not adding too much, just putting everything together neatly, leaving it open I believe it leaves space for people to take away what they want from the work.

The actual designing of magazine was simple but the stress came from the delivery. I paid extra shipping to ensure the magazine would arrive well before the deadline, however it did end up getting quite delayed in printing along the way. I contacted the company explaining the importance of it arriving for the deadline, the company was very helpful, kept me up to date and sent a full refund and still sent the magazines. It was stressful but they were very helpful, and it did mean I had to come up with new ways of presenting incase they didn’t arrive in time which ultimately just further benefited the work. The magazine arrived the day before the deadline.
