 Marina Abramovic  

I have been planning a new video/performance piece partly inspired by Marina Abramovic's "art must be beautiful, artist must be beautiful" piece. This piece was made in 1975, Abramovic sits in front of a camera brushing her hair for over 50 minutes, throughout the piece the speed and tempo becomes more violent. All the way through the piece Abramovic repeats the phrase, "Art must be beautiful, Artist must be beautiful" over and over. 

The piece i have planned may contain different ideas but is inspired by the basic motions and framing of this piece. I plan to be repeatedly hit across the face with a bunch of flowers whilst reciting the care instructions from the packaging. I plan to be stood facing the camera, only in shot from above the shoulders, a clean white space, i want the piece to be basic in appearance. I'm not sure yet how the framing will work with being hit by flowers, if another persons arm will block the camera, but that's something we can work out in the filming process.
