Studio practice

 Exhibition aesthetics

When setting up my exhibition space I realised I hadn't yet thought about seating for my video. I don't like to use any of the chairs from college as it simply looks like I would of taken it from a classroom rather than an exhibition space. I thought about making a horizontal plinth like block to sit on as I've seen that type of thing in places like contemporary, however, by the time id thought of this idea the basement was completely out of plinths and Don had been told to not make anymore. Last year I brought in bales of straw for seats as that fit the work, this year I thought about flower crates, yet the only ones I could find were green plastic and very low. Alternatively I looked online for small wooden stools and came across this step stool on Ikea. My showing space is were we had our small photography station and equipment, most messy parts like the sink have been hidden behind boards but a few things left in the space still speak of a photography studio, high on the wall above the screen I'm showing on is the backdrop rolls and pully's. I quite like that the space still has aspects of the studio photography set, I think it connects to the nature of my work well. So when choosing the wooden stool I decided on the two tiered step apposed to a simple table looking stool as I thought it looked like something that would make sense in a photography studio. The stool arrived flatpack yesterday, I weirdly enjoy putting flatpack furniture together so it only took 15 minutes and was relatively easy. When it comes to the colour of the stool I guess first thought would be to paint it white, although I think I quite like how it looks naturally, it was suggested to paint it pink, I think ill get it into the space then decide.
