Table self zine pt 2
I folded up the zines and decided to take them out and place them around town. I went to a few local bars, pubs and cafes around the Hockly area and asked to put a few of my zines there. This was a very scary thing for me, I was nervous about going into these places to ask, but I just kept telling myself the worst thing that can happen is they say no. So I gave myself a talking to and the very first place I went straight up said no. The woman was very nice but I was nervous and it was my very first place so I did have a little cry, but I took 5 minutes then decided to keep going. Moving forward I got a feel for most of the places by seeing if they already had any newsletters and such placed around before asking and everywhere else I asked were really nice and said yes. Looking back I think because it was the first place I asked I may not of come across my best and asked quite shyly but after I tried to come across more confident and direct. This was highly scary but it was good and I think even the first no was a positive thing for me because it helped me to take that step back, re-asses and keep trying.
The aim of putting them in places around town is to try and reach a wider audience to send me images rather than just social media, I also thought its something that will be out there over the holidays hopefully reaching people whilst I'm not actually there in town. I put it in places I knew people would be sat having a drink and would be likely to just pick it up and glance, hence keeping the text short and snappy. I also stuck to just the Hockly and lace market area as I thought it tends to be mainly students and quite creative people in this area who may be more likely to be willing to take part. So far they've been out there for two days and I've had a few responses already.
